Friday: Block-Constructed Jumpstart
On Friday we play a format we call "Block-Constructed Jumpstart". What does that mean? We've long had the idea of building not just one deck, but several. And that's exactly what we're doing now. Every player builds five small decks of 30 cards each. Then, for every game, two decks are randomly shuffled together (like in Jumpstart):
- Game 1: two decks at random
- Game 2: two of the remaining three at random
- Game 3 (if needed): the last deck with a randomly chosen one of the first four
Deck building
Each deck contains exactly 30 cards, singleton, built as follows:
- 12 lands (at least 10 of them basics)
- 18 nonland cards (at least 16 of them of exactly one color, i.e. at most 2 colorless nonland cards per deck)
That means:
- No multicolored cards are played, and at most 2 colorless nonland cards per deck
- You build one deck of each color
- And here's the twist: each deck may only contain cards from one block, and each block may only be chosen once
These are the blocks in Magic:
- Khans of Tarkir block (Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, Dragons of Tarkir)
- Theros block (Theros, Born of the Gods, Journey into Nyx)
- Return to Ravnica block (Return to Ravnica, Gatecrash, Dragon's Maze)
- Innistrad block (Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored)
- Scars of Mirrodin block (Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, New Phyrexia)
- Zendikar block (Zendikar, Worldwake, Rise of the Eldrazi)
- Alara block (Shards of Alara, Conflux, Alara Reborn)
- Lorwyn–Shadowmoor block (Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide)
- Time Spiral block (Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, Future Sight)
- Ravnica block (Ravnica: City of Guilds, Guildpact, Dissension)
- Kamigawa block (Champions of Kamigawa, Betrayers of Kamigawa, Saviors of Kamigawa)
- Mirrodin block (Mirrodin, Darksteel, Fifth Dawn)
- Onslaught block (Onslaught, Legions, Scourge)
- Odyssey block (Odyssey, Torment, Judgment)
- Invasion block (Invasion, Planeshift, Apocalypse)
- Masques block (Mercadian Masques, Nemesis, Prophecy)
- Urza's block (Urza's Saga, Urza's Legacy, Urza's Destiny)
- Tempest block (Tempest, Stronghold, Exodus)
- Mirage block (Mirage, Visions, Weatherlight)
- Ice Age block (Ice Age, Homelands, Alliances)
Important
- Coldsnap doesn't belong to any block! (Even though that was done once for the 2006 Pro Tour, we're not doing it!)
- Time Spiral timeshifted cards (the purple symbols) are not legal for the Time Spiral block.
- Lands can only ever produce mana of the two colors being played.
- Example Mana Confluence: in the green deck it makes green mana; combined with the white deck it also makes white mana – but never red.
- If it's later combined with the red deck, it makes red (and green) mana.
- Singleton applies across all 5 decks. E.g. Evolving Wilds can be played EITHER for the Zendikar block OR the Innistrad block.
- Color-bound abilities stay restricted by the two-color rule:
- Ethersworn Adjudicator may be played in a blue deck, but its first ability could never be activated, since you can never produce more than two colors of mana (see Mana Confluence above).
- Esper Battlemage may also be played in a blue deck, but can only activate its abilities when it's played together with the white or the black deck respectively.
- Slippery Bogle may not be played, since it's multicolored.
- Once more, just to be safe, so it's clear: if you build a green Tempest block deck, then the Tempest block is gone, i.e. no longer available for the other four colors.

Saturday: Drafts
First we'll draft the Unhinged set. But here, too, we'll do something we've wanted to do for a long time. Everyone will try to draft the worst pool possible. Then the draft pool is passed on to another player, and you build a deck from the pool you receive.
And to finish, we'll draft Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan the normal way.
